This Sunday Ben Howlett will be preaching from the book of Daniel in the Old Testament.
Throughout the book of Daniel, we read of 4 young Jewish men who are living in exile in Babylon after the defeat of Jerusalem. The book shows us the sovereignty of God over history, over kingdoms, and also in the lives of individuals. In chapter 5 we read an account of the fall of the Kingdom of Babylon and the rise of the Medes and Persians. But this book isn’t written to teach us about history, it is written to strengthen God’s people and teach about God’s rule and reign. Chapter 5 shows us that God is sovereign in the face of defiance and it also carries a stark warning for those who live without giving due honour to God.
