This Sunday Brian Cox, one of our deacons, will be preaching.

Twenty-five years ago in the weeks before 2000 – the New Millennium – industry and commerce and many individuals, myself included, were made to feel very anxious about the Millennium Computer Bug. This, we were told, was an inherent design problem in all computers that would cause chaos at the turn of midnight on December 31st 1999 into 2000. Newspapers and technical journals told us that computers all over the world would crash, shutting down airlines, banks, electricity generation stations etc, etc, However, the Millennium Bug turned out to be a minor problem hyped-up by the media and we didn’t need to worry after all.

The media continues to keep us on the edge of our seats and encourage us to worry about many different issues, some will be real but most need cause no anxiety, The theme of this Sunday’s message is how Christians can stay calm in the face of media stories in 2025 – hyped-up or not.
